How difficult is it for an expat to obtain a Costa Rica drivers license?
Is there a written test? Behind-the-wheel test? How difficult are the tests?
How long does it take to get a license?

It is very easy to get a driving licence.

Just go to the driving licence office........................just in front there is a place clearly signed for medicals and you go in and they give you a test for all of five minutes.............make sure that you can walk, have arms and legs and can see. They give you a medical certificate and you take this into the office along with your current driving licence.

There is usually a line up...............but if you are over 65  and look it....you explain to the guard in charge of the line and they send you right to the front where there is a special section for over 65"s.

The whole process should not take much more than a couple of hours.
